A Few Things You Need to Know Before You Sign Up With a Web Hosting Provider

By Ryu Ken

There are mainly two types of web hosting providers, shared web hosting and dedicated web hosting and the latter is much more expensive. If you are a new comer to the website and internet field, I suggest to start with a shared web hosting provider.

Many people have no idea what web hosting is. Web hosting provider is someone who will allow you to upload and download files into their server. Basically you hire a web space from them and you will be uploading your website files so that if someone comes and visit you, they will see your web pages which will be downloaded from the web space where you store them.

You will also need a domain name for your website. Have you heard about domain name? A domain name is just a website name e.g. yourname.com or yourname.org etc... As a rule, .com domains are the best unless you are starting an organization and in that case, .org domain might be suitable. There are country extensions such as .co.uk ( United Kingdom ) , .de ( Germany ) , .at ( Austria) , .cn ( China ) etc... I suggest you look for a .com domain first. Another thing is that try to avoid numbers and hyphens in the domain name because people will easily forget to put hyphens etc... Numbers make your name less impressive. One other suggestion is that don't make your domain name too long. People are lazy and they will not want to type too many letters just to visit your site. Ideally keep your domain name under 12 letters' length.

Where do I buy a domain name? Don't worry. Nowadays, many web hosting providers will give you free domain name just to sign up with them. But if you like to build many websites, then you will need to register domain names. I would suggest Moniker, Godaddy etc...

Next, you will need to be careful about the customer support of the web hosting companies. Why? Because it is vital important. If your sites are not working properly, people could not come to your sites and you could not make money. It is as simple as that.

Then you will need to look at the uptime. If web hosting companies give you guarantee uptime, look at it carefully. Most of the reliable hosting providers will give you guarantee uptime around 99 %.

After that, look at how much web space you will get and how much bandwidth you will be allowed per month.

You will also look at how many websites you will be able to host under one account. If you are planning to develop multiple websites, then look for web hosting companies which will allow you to host many websites under one account and this way, you will save your money.

Don't worry too much. Good news is that we have done most of the work for you. We have build web hosting comparison website where you could compare top and very best web hosting providers.
