The Right Web Hosting Company For Your Online Business

By Kudzai Mukono

Before setting yourself online as a business you definitely without a doubt need a professional and reliable web hosting company.

Most people don't do their research and they end up going with any company they pick out of the sack. But this is too risky. What if the company goes down a couple of years down the line when your business has picked up? What if you wake up one morning and your website is no longer online?

Therefore, it's very crucial that you go with the right web hosting company for your online business. Research is very crucial and needs to be carried out intensively before you start any online venture. Word of advice. Join a forum online where people talk about websites and there you can pick up some ideas about the right web hosting company for your online business.

If you go with the wrong web hosting company then you are building yourself towards online failure. I have spoken about some good web hosting companies in an article on my website.

These 2 factors should never be avoided when starting your online venture:

1. Registering the right domain

2. The right web hosting company for your online business

Try and avoid the web hosting companies which offer free website hosting. These can get you into deep waters. You never know. Personally, I would stay away from anything that's free. I would rather pay a couple dollars at least I know I have made an investment rather than going for free stuff.

The right web hosting company for your online business is your main priority before you start your online journey.

What Should We Choose? Virtual Or Dedicated Hosting

By Justin Knights

Hosting is the utmost important step in building you website. For a newbie, selecting a web hosting might be a difficult decision to make. To solve the confusion in their minds, they just need to sort out the facts about these two different types of hosting.

For a virtual hosting, the rates are cheaper but their service is common. They might have slower response with their server because they host multiple website in one server. This also means that you IP address are shared. Therefore, you website might sometimes link with other irrelevant website that are related to gambling or adult content for example. This is to do with the neighborhood surrounding of your IP address. So it is not a very good thing to happen to you visitors with other web pages popping up out of nowhere.

As for a dedicated hosting, you will have your own server. So, your response time will be better, and you will have no bandwidth issues to worry about. However, to enjoy this kind of service, you will have to pay more. You will not have unwanted pop up because the entire is used for you website only.

As a conclusion, if your website do not expect a lot of traffic, a virtual hosting will be sufficient for you. On the other hand, dedicated hosting will be better if you have a lot of traffic coming on to your website. Other problems like IP address sharing and bad neighborhood can be solve by looking for a more reputable company that doesn't have so much of these problems.

Disk Space- huge amount of disk space is needed as your content will increase based on addition on a daily basis. Secondly, we must take a look at the bandwidth. Next, to ensure that the website is running fine, the uptime is very important. This refers to the reliability of the server to remain uptime at least to a 99.9% at all times. Then, we must choose a data management system to manage your website. Choose package that comes with MySQL, DBs and php MyAdmin.

Safety of the website is also another feature that you should look into. Therefore, you should get a secured service from the providers so that your website stays safe from viruses and hackers. Finally, you should find a company with great support service so that any problems that you may get could be solved in a jiffy.

The Secrets Behind Web Hosting Companies

By Justin Knights

In every marketing tactics, companies always have a way of making thing simple for consumers to understand. There is every reason to let customers know the service that they are looking for but there are some details that every company will avoid telling the customers. This is so called business secrets. It exists in every industry and let's has a look about these secrets in web hosting.

Firstly, web reviews are something that we should be careful of. 85% of all web reviews are not true. If you come across reviews on blogs, they could just be some writings that have no prove. To be sure, you can have a look at forums like www.webhostingtalk.com. Another issue that we should be careful with is the term Unlimited Bandwidth. This is just a marketing technique to get your attention to their advertisements. This goes same for Unlimited Disk Space. There is no such thing as an unlimited space hard disk available in the market. Therefore, how can they provide you with unlimited space? Think about it.

Hosting companies are brave enough to come up with such claims because they know the statistics of consumers. Let's say company A with 100GB of space and 1000GB of bandwidth provides a package that gives their customers 10GB space and 100GB of bandwidth. So, they can provide 10 packages. However, the users usually never reach the limit that they provided. This means that they could proceed to provide another 15 to 20 more packages available to customers. Therefore, this tactic is what they use and it is known as Overselling.

One more thing that companies do not reveal is the CPU usage. CPU usage has a connection with the unlimited cases and overselling mentioned above. When a user's account reaches its limit, it will hit the CPU Usage. When that happens, that user's account will be suspended. This is something that consumers cannot see. Therefore, hosting companies are not afraid about it.

By Justin Knights

PhP is now well known as the quick rich hosting because most Php provider just want the money and not the satisfaction that they get from their clients. Therefore, Php hosting is now something that customers fear for because of the bad service. In the end, they will get their website offline because the support is just not there.

Most people only find out that they were cheated of their money after they signed up with the PhP domain hosting. They often fall for marketing tricks which offer tremendously low price. The best Php hosting companies out there are usually not so well known. Therefore, most people can't find these companies at the first place.

Getting a premium service with cheap packages is definitely achievable but there are only a few companies out there providing it. Finding these companies will be the hard part. Cheap packages are not really bad all the time. Some cheap packages that cost around $10 a month could surprise you with their service. All you have to do is to find out which one it is.

Another thing that you should look out for is the statistic of the company. The amount of traffic that it is able to accept, the sites that are link and the keywords used are all important details that you should know when you choose you Php web hosting.

Research is the key to help you find the right Php hosting. Once you found it, you will be able to stick with it for years and it will be very worthwhile. You will be glad and thankful when you think back for not taking the cheap packages without looking through what they offer thoroughly.

Is Online Hosting Review Helping?

By Justin Knights

Many people use online web hosting review to help them make choices when it comes to choosing a web hosting company. However, the truth is another issue because many hosting review sites are paid to write reviews and even earn commission from the sales of the hosting plan. Therefore, we can really trust 100% of what written in the web reviews.

If you do a search on reviews about web hosting, you will find tons of results. If you were to use Google AdWords to market the review, you will need to pay approximately $14 to $18 just to have a top 3 position. Therefore, we can have an idea of what they earn because the amount of money spent in advertising is relatively high.

However, we are not saying that web hosting review sites are totally useless. They often provide a lot of information for customers. They can provide you information regarding the packages provided by different companies. Some even provide you with coupons to give you discount for packages in the first month of your subscription. Therefore, always check out more than 5 reviews to get a clearer idea on the hosting company. Once you are done reviewing the company, you then proceed to visit the hosting company directly.

When you do that, your motive is to compare the information from the company and the information from the website review. This is important because there are cases that the review you read was outdated. Therefore, if you come across difference in the information, do not panic. Just get to the bottom of things. Next, you should check the feedback from their existing customers from related forums. In this case, you ca already know how good that particular company is.

In conclusion, we hosting reviews is always considered as a guideline for you to make decision on which company you will eventually choose to host your website. However, you must be cautious and check all areas before you actually sign with the company. Most review websites are keen in making money but we can't say that they are liars. All we have to do is to be careful and smart when we make decisions and do not fall for cheap tricks or packages that will ruin your business.

How Much Web Hosting Bandwidth Do You Really Need?

By Justin Knights

In the internet web hosting field, bandwidth is something that everyone will discuss about. It is one of the most important parts in web hosting. In times, choosing the company or package with the best bandwidth is a daunting task. Therefore, we should clear our mind and ask ourselves on how much bandwidth we need before we go for a big scout in the market. Different people will have different preferences in their website. So, choose those which match your criteria exactly.

To keep matters simple, bandwidth is known as the amount of stuff or data that is downloaded from your server by your visitor's browser. Therefore, the more pictures you have on your website, the bigger the bandwidth is needed for you visitor to open you website. The server will keep track of the amount that you use in a monthly basis. Therefore, you have a limit of bandwidth for every month. If you exceed your bandwidth for that month, you website will go don and will be available again only by the next month when the bandwidth is reset. So, it is very important that you have enough bandwidth to support the amount of data that will be downloaded from you site each month in order to have your website keep on running.

The question is, how much bandwidth do you need? You should be able to get the numbers from your control panel from the real-time report. Usually, it is on the left side of the screen after you logged in. Monitor it every month to see whether your web hosting company provides you with enough bandwidth or not. If the bandwidth they provide is insufficient, you will need to upgrade your bandwidth per month. If you don't need that much bandwidth, just downgrade.

Therefore, knowing how much bandwidth you need is very important to ensure that your website runs smoothly. It is also important because you will know how much you need and don't have to pay for excess fees when you don't really need that much bandwidth. Overall, it helps a lot in your business.

Do Unlimited Bandwidth and Disk Space in Web Hosting Really Exist?

By Justin Knights

In web hosting today, customers demand is getting harder and harder to satisfy. Unlimited disk space and bandwidth seem to be compulsory on the packages that they offer. Companies which do not have this seem to loose out in the competition. However, can unlimited disk space and bandwidth really be possible? In the market today, it is possible with the marketing technique of Overselling.

Like we mentioned, Overselling is merely a marketing method for providers to describe their product or services. For an example, a company organizing a dinner for 50 people will provide 60 tickets for sale. With their statistics, they know that 5-10 people will not turn up. Therefore, they do not have any disadvantages at hand. However, this Overselling technique could be disastrous for your company's reputation if used incorrectly.

In web hosting, this technique is very commonly used because competitors are found everywhere. Overselling could meet the demand of the customers. By doing that, they can stay in contention with other companies. Moreover, customers want to get more while paying less, this reason males the company even more reason to use this overselling technique.

Here is an example of Overselling used in web hosting. Company A is a company that is capable of delivering 20 000 GB of bandwidth and 2000 GB disk space. They offer a plan that offers 2000 GB o bandwidth monthly and 200GB storage space. They are able to do this because they calculated that 90% of their clients never use more than10% of the resources they were provided. Mathematically, they can only accept 10 clients. Therefore, they are overselling.

For unlimited bandwidth, it is clear that it is impossible to be achieved. The bandwidth really depends on the resources that you are provided. They are the CPU Time, RAM Usage and Database Connection. Before unlimited bandwidth can be achieved, you will have to sort out the limited resource that you have. Company will usually state this in their terms of service 'If a user is monopolizing a server resources, XXX Hosting Company has the right to immediately suspend the account for resource abuse. No refund will be offered.' This is a way the companies trick their clients. Therefore, it is always better to choose a provider that has a good reputation backing their honest service.

Comparison Between Hostmonster and Apollo

By Justin Knights

There are so many comparisons made on various web hosting provider to find out their differences and which stands out than the other. Therefore, this article is going to look at the similarity and differences between 2 web hosting companies. We will compare Apollo and HostMonster.

Both companies are very well known for their services in web hosting. Apollo has over 165 000 domains while HostMonster is registered with 350 000 domains. In this industry, whichever company that has over 100 000 clients will be regarded as an industry leader. Both companies are doing superbly but why more people choose HostMonster. Is it because Hostmonster do more advertising to get more clients or is it because of the cheaper service that they offer is. The numbers of domain that registered with HostMonster is more than double than the amount of domain registered under Apollo and there is definitely a reason for that.

Hostmonster provides 24 hours seven days a week customer support. They also allow cancellation without any extra charges. There are no long term contracts whatsoever. Furthermore, they provide search engine function as well as e-commerce function but the best of what they offer is their uptime.

Having all these fabulous features, no wonder Hostmonster is a better choice for many. However, this doesn't mean that Apollo does not deliver great service. Apollo also comes with features like free and variety of paid marketing as well as e-commerce. The only thing that they lack is the streaming of video and audio multimedia function. This is where HostMonster tends to stand above Apollo

Web Hosting Provider - Five Factors to Consider

By Joseph Nyamache

Choosing a web hosting provider is like oxygen: you never give it a second thought until you suddenly don't have any. It seems like it should be such a simple thing but what makes it so tricky is that there are so many of web hosting provider to choose from that it ends up becoming confusing a decision to make. So, how do you decide if you have found the one that you should use for your Internet business?

1.) First, the industry standard for uptime is a minimum of 99%, so you want to check that out first. Does the given web hosting provider service have a track record of being that reliable? You really don't need your site to go down a lot. Ironically, the providers that promise you unlimited storage space and bandwidth are the ones that tend to let your site crash the most, because they get overloaded. So, be wary of these.

2.) Next, consider how much space you'll get with a given provider. As mentioned above, those who offer no limits to the amount of diskspace may not be the most reliable. But if you are going to want to have an image gallery or something else that would gobble up megabytes, you may have to consider going for one anyway. But if that's not what you're going to need, perhaps you only need anywhere from 30 to 50 MB of storage space.

3.) You also don't need unlimited bandwidth unless you're trying to become the next MSN Live. You'll still get all the traffic you need without infinite data transfer allowance, so once more stick with going for uptime reliability. 1 GB is plenty. Along those same lines, you probably don't need unlimited e-mail accounts, or even dozens of them. If your target web hosting provider offers you about 15 or so, that's a good deal.

4.) Now, how about tech support? Does the host you're considering have a good reputation with this? If they don't, just forget about them. There's nothing worse than poor customer service and tech support. Even poor uptime is not (quite) as bad. Make sure your target web hosting provider will give you CGI-bin access. They'll probably have to have the script for them pre-installed for your security. If you write scripts yourself, be sure your provider will support your languages--PERL, C++, or whatever you may use.

5.) Now, the final and perhaps most crucial factor of all in choosing the appropriate web hosting provider. You get what you pay for. Web host providers that compete on price are cheap in both senses of that word. While you do want to get competitive rates, compare apples to apples and make sure that all of the quality that you want is there first before you start comparing prices. If you wind up paying a little more, that's money well spent.

Shared vs Dedicated Server Hosting

By Jim Jameson

While buying and registering a hosting account, an individual must keep in mind the type of hoisting that is provided. One criterion for this decision is the operating system on which the site will be hosted. The choice of the operating system should be made keeping in mind the type of the website and the programming language employed in the creation of the site depending on which the hosting can be Windows or UNIX. Another major factor about a hosting that should be carefully evaluated is the sharing of the hosting. A shared web hosting is essentially a hosting account in which various other shared hosting accounts are hosted on the same account on the web server. The number of different shared hosting accounts hosted on a single server may vary from a few hundred to thousands depending on the capacity of the server.

A dedicated server hosting comprises of a server that is dedicated solely for a particular company or firm. The server is not burdened with other accounts and is limited to just one dedicated server hosting account. The dedicated server hosting has some distinct advantages over the shared server hosting including the fact that the customer support provided is exceptional. Also, since the entire server is dedicated to juts one account, innumerable number of websites can be hosted with ease. All this however comes for a price. The dedicated server hosting is priced at an escalated price as compared to the shard server hosting.

Almost all small business and hosting providers themselves prefer the shared hosting account. Owing to the low cost, the shared hosting accounts are considered to be highly feasible and economically viable. Despite the low cost, almost all shared hosting providers provide extensive technical support and make sure that the customer is at ease. In case of a dedicated server hosting account, the owner of the account is given complete administrative rights and is free to change things at will in a near real time manner. The technical support that is provided is included for in the total fee of the hosting plan. Dedicated hosting provider can be managed for people or companies who do not wish to deal with the numerous technicalities of running and maintaining a server. Getting the dedicated hosting account managed is costly but if done properly, it can lead to immense benefits for the company or individual who owns the account.

Selecting a hosting account thus depends majorly on the need of the individual along with the budget. For someone who believes in complete privacy and does not want to divulge any sort of information to others, a dedicated server hosting plan is perhaps the best possibility. The security in the shared server hosting account is top notch as well but owing to the fact that in a dedicated server, there is just one owner, the chances of a security lapse are effectively removed. The individual should ensure that all his hosting needs are met and select a plan accordingly.

Virtual Private Servers (VPS) - A Guide

By Ewan MacLeod

Web Hosting, if tarred with as broad a brush as possible, is split into Shared and Dedicated Hosting. There are those who purchase a space on a server for their own use, and then there are those who just buy the server. A bit like buying a plane ticket, or buying a plane (except the difference between a return to Oslo and a Cessna are a bit more pronounced).

There is a bridge over these troubled waters, however. It's known as VPS (Virtual Private Server - it's also known as VDS, Virtual Dedicated Server, but that's not as common, presumably because it leads to confusion with old fashioned displays and sounds like something unsavoury you might catch on a night out in Calcutta). VPS allows freedom from the constraints of Shared Hosting, without the expense or expertise of a Dedicated server.

A Shared Hosting server typically has an operating system installed on it, and the host then installs the software they want - they set the server exactly as they like it, and then customers pay them certain amounts of money to purchase a little space on the server. The customer has as much control over that space as the host will let them, and their performance will be based on however many customers are Sharing the server (hundreds, perhaps). Remember that a server is just like your computer at home or at work - and just like your computer, it has a certain amount of memory and a certain speed of processor, and it can only do so many things at once before it has to start putting people in a queue (this is the point where your site may seem slower than usual).

A Dedicated server works the same as a Shared server, except the owner of the server has far more control over what is on their server. Like the hosting company with the Shared server, the owner of the Dedicated can pick the operating system, what software is installed, and how many sites run on the server. If a Dedicated server is set up specifically for one site and is configured for that site alone, that site will run considerably faster than a site on a Shared server. It doesn't have to share resources and it can be built purely for the purposes of running that site.

VPS sits between these two types of hosting. There are several kinds of VPS, but we will focus on software VPS. In this instance, the host will buy the server, and install an Operating System (OS) on it. They then use another program (i.e. Virtuozzo) to create several isolated Virtual Servers (sometimes known as Containers) on the server. Each of these Containers is a Virtual Server - they function as if they were stand-alone, Dedicated Servers, when in actual fact they are a more advanced form of Shared hosting!

Compared to Shared hosting, VPS has many benefits. To begin with, Shared hosting comes with no performance guarantees. That's not to say that Shared hosting is slow - it's just that some sites require a lot more resources than others, and a few busy or intensive sites on a full Shared server could well impact the performance of everyone else (try opening a few basic programs on your computer at once , keep them open, and then see how well your computer runs when you start a virus scan - those basic programs aren't so responsive now, are they?).

With a VPS, your Container will come with a guaranteed proportion of the server's resources. This usually comes in the form of RAM (Memory) available - for instance, your VPS might come with a guaranteed 256 or 512 MB of RAM. This means that, regardless of how many people there are on the server, regardless of how busy their sites are, you always, always have that much memory available for you to use. Some companies also advertise the 'burst' memory available to you as well. This is essentially the memory that you could conceivably use, assuming that everyone else isn't using their quota. However 'burst' memory is a subjective term - as there are no guarantees on how often this memory will be available to you (beyond the length of a piece of string), it's more a fancy figure to impress potential customers with.

As a Container is purchased with a guaranteed RAM quota, there will be far fewer customers sharing a VPS server than there would be sharing a, er, Shared server. So the CPU won't be divided between as many clients and their respective demands on it, so speeds will improve and the load on the CPU will decrease. All in all - your hosting will be noticeably faster. Again, some hosts will advertise CPU preferences, server contention rates etc., to demonstrate how the more expensive VPS packages will take preference to some degree over the cheaper packages when requesting resources from the CPU. How much this makes an impact on your decision to buy that VPS or not is up to you; many hosts don't make any preferences between packages whatsoever.

The other major benefit to a VPS is the extra control that you will have over your hosting. If you've managed to find someone who does hardware VPS, then you'll be able to pick your own OS as well (hardware VPS, essentially, creates the VPS on a hardware level rather than a software level - the good part; you can do whatever you like with your VPS - the bad part; the hardware, rather than shared, is divided, so instead of having the use of, for instance, a 2gHz processor and a guaranteed 256MB of RAM, you get a .5gHz processor and a guaranteed 256 MB of RAM if 4 people are sharing your server). From here you can configure your hosting as you see fit - customise your PHP settings, install PHP x, Zend whatever, Hardy Heron and/or Peggle (not recommended for a work environment). Even better, as your VPS is essentially a Virtual Machine, you can take snapshots of your entire VPS - so your whole account can be backed up into a single file, and then should something go horribly wrong, you can use the snapshot to restore the VPS in its entirety.

VPS will, of course, cost more than Shared Hosting, but on the flip side of the coin it is considerably cheaper than a Dedicated server. If performance is more of an issue for you than cost then a Dedicated is the way forward - a VPS will never be able to command the amount of resources that a Dedicated server used for the same purpose can. But as a cost-effective solution to providing a significant performance boost to your hosting, as well as allowing yourself a greater degree of control - VPS is hard to fault.

*Please note - I've been to Calcutta. I'm not implying that the place is unsavoury, disreputable, or otherwise trying to smear the good name of Calcutta in any way - it just seemed to round the sentence off nicely!

  • Affordable Website Hosting Plan - 3 Tips When Choosing a Cheap Web Host

    By Clark Thompson

We all try to get an affordable website hosting plan when we have just registered a new domain name. But finding a cheap web host is not always easy. There are many things that can go wrong when you choose a cheap host over some more expensive web-hosting.

To help you a little bit along the way when you are choosing an affordable website hosting plan, here are a few things you need to keep in mind:

    • Type of server your domain is hosted on
    • Type of tracking software installed on the server
    • The amount of space and bandwidth allowed

Depending on how advanced you are, you might want to choose a server type for your hosting that will fit your needs in the long run. Foremost this is about what type of programs and script you will be able to install and run on your server in the future.

When you spend both time and money on your website and strategy, much of that will go to waste if you can't track your visitors properly. By studying your home page and site map etc. you can learn much from your visitor's behavior. The knowledge you gain here can be used to create a more profitable web site. But of course you need tracking software on your server that can do this for you.

As your website grows both in size and in traffic, you have to make sure that your cheap hosting plan can support that. Changing spacehosting later on is something that you definitely want to avoid.

For more tips on choosing an affordable website hosting plan, visit http://johnnyknows.com/. Here you will get detailed instructions on how to choose a cheap web host. Choosing a website hosting plan is the one step you don't want to do wrong.

Dedicated Website Hosting - There Are No Substitutes

    By Tom Lane

When you want business quality web hosting there is no other way to go, than with dedicated website hosting. Whether you are planning to put your business online or host a high traffic website, like a discussion board for example, dedicated hosting is the only answer for you.

The whole idea of dedicated hosting is that that you lease a web server from the hosting provider. What this means is that this server is completely dedicated for a single customer unlike in shared hosting, where many clients share the same server. The hosting company provides the actual server machine, the software, the connectivity and the operating system to run the server.

If you run websites with lots of traffic, it is crucial that you have enough bandwidth, disk space, applications and software to operate. To maintain a high volume of traffic and fast data transfer, dedicated hosting is the perfect choice for all that. You get a whole lot of different kinds of features and you are able to install complex applications such as online shopping tools without affecting the stability of the server.

There are two types of dedicated web hosting - managed and unmanaged. When you get managed hosting, the hosting company will provide you with all the necessary services and they will run and maintain the server within their companies datacenter. This is the most popular version of dedicated hosting. In some cases the web administrators want to manage their servers by themselves and so they go with unmanaged hosting. With unmanaged option the client doesn't get all the features from the hosting provider like in the managed version.

What You Need to Know About Hostmonster Web Site Hosting

    By Thomas Henricks

Website hosting is a very competitive business today. With the number of people posting websites on the internet, it has also become a very lucrative business. This rise can be attributed to several factors. People want to share information about their hobbies, business or family. People want to avail themselves of the opportunity to earn money at home via online businesses. Also to be included are established businesses whether they are online or old fashioned brick and mortar.

The blogging phenomenon has made it quite simple yet effective to post your own information and allow other people to interact with this information. Blogs can become quite large and resources heavy at your website hosting provider. I personally operate a number of blogs at a variety of hosts but rely quite heavily on Hostmonster website hosting. I have experienced absolutely no problems with issues regarding bandwidth usage or data storage at my Hostmonster web hosting accounts and in fact have more than one account with them.

The same can not be stated regarding a couple of other hosting providers even though they bear a fairly positive reputation in the business. I have utilized the services of a pretty sizeable number of website hosting providers in addition to Hostmonster and I have found that a few simply can't live up to expectations.

Blogging requires considerable hosting resources and applications. This is one of the considerations that sorts out the men from the boys. Don't get yourself committed to a package that ultimately suspends or terminates service to you because your traffic is requiring too much load on their resources.

Another area of consideration must take into account that you need webhosting that provides great service and support. Don't be misled by many of the websites claiming to be dedicated to helping you! Some providers boast that this is a priority but in fact their response to your needs indicate otherwise. I have found that my Hostmonster web site hosting package has fully lived up to expectations and requirements in this area. They provide several avenues to seek assistance that include online chat that is extremely responsive with intelligent staff providing accurate information, an online knowledge base, email support and telephone support for immediate one on one communication. I must say that it does not matter your level of experience.

There are times when you will require support and assistance. Nothing will be more frustrating than the inability to get a response from you hosting provider at those times.

Other issues related to website hosting pale in importance actually. As with Hostmonster Web Site hosting, the typical features and applications provided are very similar with most quality packages today. These include website building, email, databases, control panels and multiple domains. You will also find that pricing is kept quite competitive and similar when comparing the quality hosts bearing good reputations.

Don't be misled though. Many hosting review sites are listing a dozen different website hosting packages that they boast are all great! That's just not accurate. They are simply trying to peddle all those packages with no concern about what you are getting into. Some of those commonly advertised packages have major weaknesses. I find it difficult to believe some of those review sites have actually tested all the hosting packages that they are recommending. I am not recommending anything that I have not tested! You need webhosting that provides great service and support, a wide range of features and costs that are affordable in today's website hosting.

Web Hosting That Best Suits Your Business

    By Tarun Gupta

It can be really overwhelming while choosing an option as to where you should host your web site when you have numerous alternatives in front of you. But, if you are well equipped and have through knowledge of the different types of hosting options, it will help you to choose the right path and make your business flourish globally.

Most web hosting companies provide the client with varied services and the most common types are:

    • Free web hosting:
    • Free web hosting providers generally advertise their facilities on your web page through pop-ups, frames and scripts. They may not allot you the required space or bandwidth and may not even allow you to upload your own design.
    • Image hosting:
    • This type of hosting provides you with the facility of loading images on their servers without wasting much space and bandwidth on your part.
    • Dedicated hosting:
    • It is in this type of hosting that you are assigned a server of your own. The web host does not take any responsibilities other than hosting operations. It can be quite expensive as the client is responsible for the maintenance and security of his box.
    • Shared hosting:
    • Shared hosting is also known as virtual hosting or mass hosting. Here web sites of different clients are placed on the same server ranging from a few to hundreds or thousands. A problem in one site may hamper the performance of the other sites in the server.
    • Reseller web hosting:
    • Here the clients can become web hosts themselves. The customer pays a certain amount to the provider and resells their services under his own brand. These types of hosting companies have different agreements and contracts. It is ideal for those who wish to host on behalf of their customers as it does not require vast knowledge from the technical aspect of web hosting.
    • Collocated web hosting:
    • In this type of hosting the user needs to purchase the server himself and install it in the host's centre data. In most cases, the provider, provides very little or no support for the client's machine. It is basically chosen by people who have an experience in server administration and who are not satisfied with the properties of dedicated or shared hosting. This is usually the most expensive of all.
    • Managed hosting:
    • Here the user does not get full control over his server. The provider does not allow the user to modify the server. They manage their data by using some remote management tools and here the server is basically rented or leased out to the client.

What is Web Hosting? Web Hosts Explained For the Novice and Techno-Phobic

    By Steve D Evans

Put simply, web hosting is the service that allows you to have a website on the Internet. I like to think of my hosting service as my site storage space, but it is on the web, and looked after by my web hosting company.

Web hosting is the act of storing the files for a web site on a specific computer (called a 'server') which displays them as necessary to people as they visit that web site. Hosting requires you to have your own allocated space (RAM) on a server, as well as a fast connection to the Internet.

A good hosting service runs their own server monitoring to ensure that your data is kept safe and that your hosted websites maintain maximum operational status. Also, on the best services connectivity to the data centres is supplied from diverse telco carriers representing something like 25GBps (gigabit per second) bandwidth in total.

Once you have chosen a web hosting service you will need a domain before you see any web site you upload on to your hosted web space. Domain names must be registered in order to be used, and for your convenience many hosting companies will also sell you a domain.

Many web hosts provide domain registration services that allow you to buy and use your domain name, but be aware that their charges may be higher than hunting around for registration elsewhere.

Some would say that it is also a good idea to register your domains separately. This is because, if for any reason you have a problem with the hosting service, and sometimes sites do get banned for a variety of reasons, you will be able to move your site more easily if the registrant is a third party.

Don't let the idea of the cost of domains put you off starting a web site, Domains are very affordable, and registration is very simple.

    Shared Hosting

Shared hosting is the most popular form of hosting due to its low cost.

Shared website hosting permits more than one site to be hosted on the same server. Here, the web hosts provide system administration on up to say 1,000 sites on the same server. Shared hosting is the most basic level of hosting, and usually works very well. However, where numerous web sites are shared on one server there is always the chance that the burden on the processing capacity by other users may slow your site.

So, although we like the low cost and this is an economic solution, these types of sites typically cannot handle large amounts of storage or traffic. So, if you are successful with your site you may need to move up to using a dedicated server which a web host can buy for you and locate in their data centre. This will be a natural progression for any successful web site creator, and the cost will not normally be an obstacle as by the time your traffic rises so that you need a dedicated server, you will be able to make more than enough money from the site to pay for a dedicated and colocated server.

Nowadays, shared hosting comes with its share of convenient features. Many Web hosts offer powerful control panels that make it easy for users to upload their files, check with statistics, add small functionalities and handle other such small tasks easily. Indeed a lot of the time spent in choosing a web host package will be consumed in assessing the bundle of features provided.

Website hosting can be cheap, but also reliable and fast if you choose wisely. Read reviews and look for complaints on forums and in places like Yahoo Answers. Many low cost web hosting plans come with full email (pop3/smtp and imap) support and some even have unlimited email aliases and responders. However, if they appear to offer too much in value, they may simply be unable to provide other things such as reliability or speed.

Website-related software for creating and optimizing your web site is getting better and easier to use. Already, many people that possess very little technically-savvy are enjoying running their own websites and email. As time goes by, the bar to doing so will continue to get lower and lower.

Yes, website hosting and editing has never been this easy, writing good looking pages, adding or deleting pages, changing navigation labels, and adding links wherever you need them, requires no special skills. So, now is the time to start your new web site, and becoming a respected expert in your favorite subject. Also, earning additional income through this route has never been easier.

Steve Evans is a successful web site creator and marketer. He has over 40 web sites and uses a number of web hosting services. As a consumer of web site hosting services since 1997, he has a great deal of experience from which he has provided consumer reports on more than a dozen web hosting services. He hates poor service and just as strongly likes to encourage the best of services. See his independent reports at UK Web Site Hosting comments and complaints.

Web Hosting - Windows Reseller Hosting

    By Santosh Bhangle

As web hosting has become a profitable online business, reselling hosting business has also become more profitable. Windows reseller hosting solutions have substantially more advantages over the popular Linux reseller hosting because of the various favorable factors that you can offer to your clients such as:

    • Windows reseller hosting provider can now keep track of multiple clients by using a single control panel

    • You can have PHP and MySQL based Control Management System (CMS) with ASP.Net SQL website

    • As a Windows reseller hosting provider, you can host excellent Windows based applications which will help all your clients

    • Allow users to use Active Server Pages (ASP) scripts and other Microsoft applications in designing great websites

    • Use exciting new tools like Windows Mobile and Active Sync technology

    • Use Push and SharePoint technology

    • Use the ever-popular Microsoft Access or the ever-dependable SQL Server relational database management system (RDMS) for data management and data analysis. SQL Server has proved itself as arguably the most reliable database management system for many top enterprise level businesses all over the world. Your clients can now use this stable, reliable, and efficient RDMS

    • Use .Net (DotNet) or Visual Basic (VB) web development tools

    • Use Microsoft's Active Directory technology

    • Windows based server can host websites running on UNIX based system

    • Web hosting, especially Windows reseller hosting has now become as exciting as any other online business because Microsoft continuously updates its Windows based web applications with the latest technology

    • Multiple vendors are offering exciting web solutions that can help your Windows reseller web hosting business

    • Stronger security, better stability, and speed

    • Microsoft's Server 2003 hosting solution has proven itself as useful with its high-capacity server operating system and features

The disadvantages of using Windows Reseller Hosting are:

    • Windows based web applications need licenses and thus make Windows reseller hosting more expensive than the Linux based web hosting, and

    • Linux web hosting is more stable and needs less rebooting compared to Windows web hosting

Windows web hosting has better scalability factor when clients need to upgrade their web hosting needs as their businesses grow online. Windows web hosting is a better choice for the reseller hosting business considering the fact that Windows hosting has better compatibility with Linux hosting tools. Interactive applications like the Chat tools can run better under the Windows based web hosting. The powerful Visual Basic applications and DotNet can only run under Windows web hosting.

So, web hosting businesses, especially Windows reseller hosting businesses, are growing rapidly because the DotNet technologies like ASP.Net and VB.Net have become popular. With Microsoft's Exchange 2007, Windows Server 2008 Web Edition, SQL Server 2008, ActiveSynch and the latest mail server technology Windows hosting is positioned for a rapid growth. SQL Server management tools and other Microsoft Windows based technologies are making the Windows web hosting business grow at a rapid pace and is becoming very popular.

Now, Windows based web technology opens exciting new avenues in the mobile applications also. The popular Enterprise level databases like Access and SQL Server are being used all over the world. The new SharePoint Server and services, and many other Microsoft Windows applications for web design and development are becoming popular.

All these new technologies will also make Windows reseller hosting business more exciting. The success of these latest technologies will always attract more online businesses to Windows hosting. Web hosting is now definitely tilting towards the Windows hosting services, and that means better opportunities for the Windows reseller hosting businesses.

So, for web hosting resellers, the Windows reseller hosting business is proving profitable with its easier management, scalability, and ability to keep pace with the rapid technology changes in the web hosting field.

How to Decide on a Web Hosting Package

    By Puripong Koomsin

If you are reading this article, chances are, you are comparing the packages offered by various web hosts out there. Of course, you are right to do so. You certainly would not want to sign up on a web hosting package because of hype or that you were persuaded to, only to be beset with problems later when you depend on your website to be up and running.

Most of the time, you do get what you pay for, so the point is, you match your purchase against your needs. That is right. You need to decide on your needs first, before you can tell which web hosting package is right for you.

For starters, how much traffic do you expect to your site? As well, what kind of files do you expect your web host to host for you? Obviously, files like multimedia takes up more space than mere documents. Then again, do you expect your visitors to download files from your site? Are there many downloads and do these include multimedia files?

You need to estimate the above as the factors mentioned will affect how much disk space and bandwidth you need and thus, which web hosting package. It may be alright for you to share hosting space with others, or a dedicated hosting space may be more appropriate for you.

Even within a shared hosting environment, there are several plans for you to choose from. Usually, there are three plans. The most basic plan may be alright for you, or not. The difference mainly lies in the amount of hosting space (disk space) and bandwidth provided. Other differences may lie in the number of domains to be hosted, FTP features and other web hosting features.

Probably the most talked about 'feature' is the web hosting support that is offered by your potential web host. There is good reason for this. If you signed up on a web hosting package based only on the features offered within the package and neglected to find out its customer support, you had better pray that you don't run into problems with your website later on, because if you do, you may not receive the web hosting support that you need and in a timely manner.

If your site is going to be popular, or that you are not very experienced, chances are good that you will run into problems, so it would be wise to plan for this contingency right from the beginning. Even if you really don't think that you will run into any problem that you could not solve on your own, it would still be wise to plan for otherwise, because you are after all, paying for your hosting. Why pay for a web host that does not provide adequate web hosting support when you can find one that does?

If you want a web host that delivers, check out for the web hosting packages available. You get all the features within the package of your choice, plus the web hosting support in case you need it.

Reality Check - Is Cheap Hosting Recommended?

    By Phil Anderson

A cheap web hosting is always the solution for those who are tight on budget. Even though cheap, it may still turn out to be very effective in offering you great services. The cheap web hosting will definitely be better than a free web hosting. However, what good is there in signing with a cheap web hosting? Can we really gain something from it? Well, we should consider that everything has it purposes and if the function is acceptable for us, it might just work out fine after all.

If you are thinking of doing an online business, free web hosting is definitely not your choice. Firstly, you don't have your own domain name and you will have a certain type of ads appearing in your website. In the end, your website might end up promoting other stuff. Therefore, your solution is a cheap web hosting. To be honest, there is nothing wrong if you want to put your website under a cheap hosting package. You might be even surprise because there is good deals available out there which cost for a small sum only.

No matter what type of hosting you choose, reliability is the utmost important factor. Whether it's an expensive or a cheap hosting, this should be your main priority. So, if a cheap hosting is able to give you good reliability, isn't it worthwhile?

The more reliable your website is, the better your chances of getting more visitors.

The other thing to watch out for is the support provided by the hosting company. Check whether do they provide support via phone and email so that your problems could be reported immediately when they occur. This is also very important for your business because the faster you problems can be solved, the faster your customers can access your website after the malfunction. So, make sure you find a company with great support services.

After the support service is satisfactory, you should examine the back up that the hosting company provides. Back up is very important because if they do not provide back up, you will have to back up your data by yourself. Therefore, if you decide to choose a company that do not provide back up, you should back up your data yourself every month so that no data is loss if any breakdown happens.

Next, you should think about the upgrade service provided by the company. What we mean here is the company allows you to upgrade you package when you feel the need to. This is what we call scalable hosting plan. Also, the company should provide an easy and smooth upgrade procedure so that it will not be a difficult task to handle. This scalable hosting plan is much more convenient if it is compared to changing a totally new hosting. Changing a new hosting company will require a lot of work. Therefore, make sure the company that you choose provide upgrade option.

In conclusion, we think that you should have total control of you account in a certain web hosting company because that makes you in charge in any changes that you might be thinking of. Not all cheap hosting companies provide this kind of total control, but if you are able to find one reasonable price for a hosting that provides all the features, it would be a great catch.

Beware of Unlimited Bandwidth - The Catch Behind Web Hosting's Offer

    By Phil Anderson

To have your website perform well under major traffic, you need a huge amount of bandwidth. Bandwidth is simply the amount of data that can be downloaded or transmitted over an internet connection. Therefore, when you are building a website or choosing a web hosting company, make sure the company provides enough bandwidth for your website.

There are many providers out there but which one provides the genuine bandwidth that will deliver performance to your website? Some companies out there even promises unlimited bandwidth if you choose their services. To be honest, if you come across these ads that claim that they provide unlimited bandwidth, you can just forget about these companies because there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. These companies are just trying to attract you and lure you into signing up with their hosting plans. The so-called unlimited bandwidth is only a trick. After you eventually sign up with these companies, they will inform you that you will have to pay additional fees when you exceed your limit. This is the so-called unlimited bandwidth. You pay for whatever extra bandwidth you use.

So, if your pocket has unlimited cash, you really can enjoy unlimited bandwidth.

The only way to have unlimited bandwidth is to have you own broadband company. If not, there is no way a web hosting company provides unlimited bandwidth. Among the experienced that we have with customers that sign up with an unlimited bandwidth, customers finds that their website is not running after they sign up with the companies. When they ask for a refund, the company would just turn to 'legal mean'.

When they do that, customers will have no choice but to accept the fact in the terms of service, the one detail where customers always fail to study properly. In the end, the company does not have any reason to refund the customers.

In any case that you may encounter a company that provides unlimited bandwidth, make sure that you read the terms of service properly. Better safe than sorry. The better solution is to determine how much bandwidth that you will need for your website. To do that, you need to estimate the amount of visitors that you expect will visit your website daily, the amount of pages that you visitors will browse through and the size of the codes on your website. Once you have that figured out, you will roughly know how much bandwidth that you need. So, you won't actually have to go for an unlimited bandwidth after all.

If you are looking for an affordable web hosting service that offer unlimited bandwidth, perhaps you should check out Hostmonster hosting. At the time of writing, they are offering "unlimited bandwidth and disk storage space" with just about $6 per month.

Wonder if their offer is for real?

Well then you have to review Hostmonster service and compare Hostmonster hosting packages with other web host.

Webhosting - How I Choose the Best Hosting Control Panel

    By Mike Edward

There are 4 primary hosting control panels that most hosts offer for you to choose from. These are typically:

    • Helm

    • Cpanel

    • DirectAdmin

    • Plesk

Each of these has their own set of advantages, and yes, disadvantages too. I've done a lot of work with all four platforms over the years, but one has consistently out performed the other control panels. The control panel software I speak of is Helm. Time and time again Helm has continued to impress me with its great features and smooth interface. Sure, Helm has some downsides too, but compared to the other 3 platforms this control panel is flawless.

The feature that really stands out about Helm is their already built in billing system that allows you to receive payment via Paypal, check, or credit card. Helm can currently receive payment from 13+ sources.

Helm is also very scalable and customizable. They have designed their framework in such a way that its very easy to add or enhance the features of the Helm control panel. Helm can handle all Windows server extensions, including FrontPage. Helm has many extensions to support languages from PHP to ColdFusion, in fact Helm supports all popular file types used today.

My favorite thing about Helm is the fact that almost everything is automated. These automated features make it easy to get things done and cut back on support. But most importantly Helm's automation is going to save you a lot of time and money.

What really makes Helm stand out from the rest of the pack is how simple Helm is to use, and a learning curve that is easy to get by. Helm is great for both the novice and experienced server admins.

Cpanel, DirectAdmin, and Plesk really can't compare to the features and functionality that Helm offers.

Choosing the Best Web Host For Your Needs

    By Matthew Bredel

When you decide to get your own website up and running, you'll want to find a good web host. Having a good host makes a vast difference in your ability to succeed online, regardless of what type of website you have.

Reading site website hosting reviews can help you learn many things about what's available and what might be the best choice for you. Let's look at a few things that you might want to take into account when you choose a webhost for the first time or decide to transition to a new webhost because you're unhappy with your current provider.

    Hosting Fees

Different companies charge varying fees and fees are not the most important factor in choosing your web solution. You'll want to choose something that fits your needs both financially and from a service perspective. Be sure you have enough storage and consider whether or not you'll have technical support and determine what is included in various plans so you can pick something that fits your needs from a features perspective as well as pricing perspective.

    Options

Some plans offer multiple level accounts. You'll want to look at all your options to find the best one for your needs. If you're hosting a simple blog you won't need much in terms of bandwidth and space but if your site will have lots of videos and/or downloads, you might consider a more robust hosting plan with extra benefits.

    Tech Support

Does the hosting company offer you a good amount of tech support? What do the online product reviews say about the company's reputation for support? If you're a novice you'll really want to know you're not on your own and can get help if and when you need it.

You'll want to know whether or not the company you've chosen has a reputation as reliable and without a lot of down time. Lost time in having your website available can equate to lost revenue so you'll definitely want to make up time a factor in your web host choice.

    Extras

What's included in the hosting fee you pay? How many email accounts are included? What is the bandwidth available for that fee? Can you have more domains added to your existing account or is there a fee for that? Does the webhost offer domain registration services as well? Can you do other things like domain parking for profit, get extras like site templates, e-commerce solutions or site builders and more?

Expandability is an important factor as well. When you first start out you'll probably have a plan for your website but as your business grows and changes you want to know your host can support your business needs.

Consider looking at several product reviews of webhosting products before making a decision. Companies like GoDaddy, ixWeb, TVC, Hostgator and others are well known in the industry and you can find plenty of information online about what people think about them which will help you determine which one is best for you.

When looking at your choices you might even find coupon codes for saving money with larger companies like GoDaddy and Hostgator that will allow you a significant discount for when you first set up your website but do keep in mind the regular pricing without that discount and look at all the factors to help you decide because sometimes spending a few extra dollars for an intermediate or advanced hosting plan over a basic one will equate to overall convenience for you.

    Cheap Hosting Traps to Avoid

    By Kathy Ball

Searching for cheap hosting plans reminds me of the old story about the lady who found a beautiful snake dying by the side of the road. Entranced by the snakes beauty she picked the poor reptile up and carried it home where she lovingly nursed it back to health. She was so pleased when the snake recovered that she hugged him, and the snake promptly bit her. As she lay dying, she asked the snake how he could bite her after she had treated him so kindly. The snake replied, "not my fault lady, you knew I was a snake when you took me in."

The moral of the story is that just because something looks good on the surface it does not necessarily mean that it's good for you. Some cheap hosting plans are like that. On the surface they appear to be a great deal, but if you look closely at the offer you will find the true nature of the beast. Here are a few things to watch out for:

    -Contradictory Statements

    -Hidden Prices

    -Bad Reviews

    -Unadvertised limitations

    -Locked Contracts

    Contradictory Statements

Some cheap hosting providers offer what appears to be huge quantities of web space and bandwidth plus the ability to host unlimited domains on one account. On the surface this appears to be a great deal. However, once you begin adding additional domains with moderate to heavy traffic, your bandwidth may not support the load, resulting in a complete shutdown of all your web sites. In addition, if your hosting provider limits the quantity of files on your account, the addition of more domains could easily exceed the file limitations in a very short time.

I recently read a statement on a popular cheap hosting site which boasts over a million customers. The owner stated that should you have an unresolved problem, you simply had to contact him and he would personally see to it that the issue was resolved for you. Amazing! Let's look at that offer closely. Let's say that on any given day only one percent of the million customers were dissatisfied with the support they received and took the owner up on his offer. The owner would receive 10,000 emails which, if his claim is to be believed, he would have to deal with personally. Could you give 10,000 people your personal attention every day? Frankly, rather than finding his offer of personal intervention reassuring, I found it a bit disturbing. Why, I wondered, did the owner feel the need to make such an offer? Does he or she have doubts as to the competency of the support staff to satisfy his customers? Has the company lost customers because of dissatisfaction with the support system. Although the company may indeed offer excellent support, claims such as this could indicate the need for closer scrutiny.

    Hidden Prices

Every cheap hosting provider splashes the low priced cost of their hosting plans in big bold type on the web page. But is that the actual price or a special discount price you get for paying up to three years in advance? Some cheap hosting providers only offer annual payment plans, while others charge a higher fee if you prefer to pay on a monthly basis. In some cases, you would actually have to pay up to three years in advance to obtain the advertised hosting price.

    Bad Reviews

Before selecting a hosting provider, you should do a search for reviews of the company. An old adage in marketing is that a satisfied customer may tell one person about a company while a dis-satisfied customer will tell five people about their experience. Failure to find any reviews at all is not necessarily a bad sign, since this can be attributed to several factors, such as the company's size, age, and whether they offer an affiliate program. On the other hand, if your search reveals a substantial number of bad reviews then that hosting provider is probably not the right choice for your web site.

    Unadvertised limitations

Almost every hosting provider limits the quantity of emails you may send out per hour. The reason for this is that sending out emails in large quantities can substantially slow down the server's response time. On a shared server, this can affect not only your own site but many other customers sites as well. Not all cheap hosting providers tell you this in advance. Some wait until you exceed your limits then promptly suspend your account and even charge you additional fees for the excess emails you sent.

Frankly, If you will be sending out mass mailings then you should use an auto-responder service for the tasks. In addition to saving a great deal of time on your mailings, auto responder services offer a host of features such as scheduling your mailings to go out on specified days, tracking capabilities and spam bot workaround software that will help you increase the profit potential of you emails.

As stated earlier, some cheap hosting providers also set limitations on the quantity of files you can upload to your site. If you operate a large web site, you could find yourself dealing with sudden shutdowns of your web site and lost data since some providers have been known to erase files when a customer exceeds their limits.

Another often unadvertised limitation is the use of scripts. Before purchasing your hosting plan, make sure the scripts you want to run on your site are allowed by the provider, otherwise you may find your site shutdown and your account suspended until the script is removed.

If the hosting provider offers templates for building your website, be sure to read the fine print carefully. Some providers only allow you to use the templates while you maintain an account with them. If you decide to move your site to another provider later, you may find you have to rebuild your entire site from scratch.

    Locked Contracts

Read the contract or Terms of Service carefully before you commit to purchase a hosting plan. Some providers require written notice in advance of cancellation of your account. Others may delete your files after a specified number of days past due. If you decide to switch to a dedicated server, some providers will demand payment for the full term of your shared hosting agreement.

As with any business arrangement, take time to read the fine print carefully before you commit yourself to an agreement to purchase any cheap hosting plan. The small amount of time you invest now could save you hours of time and quite a lot of money in the future.

Cheap Hosting - How Much Bandwidth Do You Really Need For Your Website

    By Kathy Ball

Many cheap hosting companies offer what appear to be huge quantities of bandwidth for a low price. Before you leap on the deal, consider carefully how that bandwidth will be used. Does the hosting provider also offer unlimited domains with the plan? And if so, how many web sites do you intend to set up on your account? Let's do some simple calculations to see if that cheap hosting deal is really as sweet as it appears to be.

First of all read the offer carefully. Some cheap hosting providers display the bandwidth offered in MB or megabytes to make the amount seem much larger than you actually receive. One megabyte (1MB) equals one MILLION bytes. One gigabyte (1GB) equals one BILLION bytes; make certain you use the correct quantity of bytes in your calculations.

An average web site contains a mix of text and images throughout its pages. Some sites offer files for download while others do not. Traffic can vary substantially depending upon many factors, however an average web site usually receives anywhere from 50 to 500 visitors per day. If your site falls within these guidelines, then a hosting plan with anywhere from 3-5 gigabytes (GB) of data transfer per month should be sufficient for your needs. Now let's say you get more than 500 visitors per day, or that you offer numerous large files for your visitors to download, then you should consider a hosting plan with 50 gigabytes of data transfer per month or more. Tally the amount of bandwidth each domain you intend to add to your hosting account will need to determine if your bandwidth allowance will support your multiple web sites.

How can you tell in advance what your data transfer needs are going to be? Actually, all it requires is some simple math. For instance, if your website consists of four web pages, and each page is 5,000 bytes in size, and you have twenty images on your site that are 50,000 bytes in size. Multiply the number of pages (4) times the byte per page (5000), and you get 20,000 bytes. Now multiply the number of images (20) by the number of byte per image (50,000)and you get 1,000,000 bytes. Add the bytes together and your entire web site totals 1,020,000 bytes.

If your typical visitor looks at half the pages on your site, then simply divide the total by 2 and your visitor uses 510,000 bytes per visit. There are 1,000,000,000 bytes in each gigabyte. So multiply the number of gigabytes your hosting plan offers per month by 1,000,000,000 bytes For this example let's say you get 4 gb of bandwidth per month which would be 4,000,000,000 bytes. Now divide the 4,000,000,000 bytes by the typical visitors usage 510,000 and you can receive 7,843 visits per month before you exceed your bandwidth. Let's also assume that when a a typical visitor comes to your site, they look at half of your pages and half of your images. That works out to 10,000 plus 500,000 equals 510,000 bytes per visit.

Now let's assume that you have 10 similar web sites hosted on the same account and each site receive 500 visitors per month, multiply 510,000 bytes per visitor by 500 and your bandwidth usage just skyrocketed to 25,500,000 per day. Multiply that times 30 days and you would need 255,000,000 bytes 0r 3.92 GB of band width per month to avoid paying a surcharge. If your sites should exceed these quotas, then you are going to be hit with a surcharge for the excess usage.

Naturally if your web site has fewer images or content then your visitors will use a lower quantity of bandwidth. Simply apply the above formula to your actual web site to determine how much bandwidth you actually require to accommodate your visitors.

Before purchasing your hosting plan, take time to shop around. Watch out for cheap hosting companies that offer huge amounts of bandwidth but require you to pay up to three years in advance to get their cheapest rate. First of all, do the math, make sure you need that much bandwidth because, if you want the cheapest rates they offer you're going to have to pay up to three years in advance to get it.

Do a search for reviews of the hosting providers service before you buy. If you can't find a review, that's actually a good indicator that the company provides good service. You see, very few people will take the time to post a complimentary review online, but those that have experienced frustration with a companies support system or unfair treatment will definitely take a moment or two out of their busy day to warn you about that company.

Another thing to watch out for is cheap hosting companies that provide templates for your website. Read the fine print before you spend a lot of time creating a web site with their templates. Most providers only "loan" the templates to you while you host your site with them. If you decide to move your site to another host later on, you will have to rebuild your site from scratch or pay a designer to create one for you.

Invest a little time to find a cheap hosting provider that:

    - offers free templates with no strings attached

    - that offers free web building software you can download and keep regardless of whether you remain a customer

    - that gives you the cheapest rate on a monthly payment plan instead of a long term contract

    - that offers 24/7 support

You will be amazed at how much time and money you can save in the long run, if you simply take time to find the right cheap hosting plan for your business needs.
