Should I Go For Blogspot Hosting?

By Puripong Koomsin

If you are deciding between Blogspot hosting or another kind of free hosting, you are probably concerned of your website to some degree at least. Otherwise, you would simply use any hosting that you can find free of charge. You are probably quite new and though you are concerned of your site, you may want to limit your expenses at this point, especially since you are not really earning from your venture online, yet. This is perfectly understandable.

Blogspot hosting, which is offered by Blogger (of Google), is the most talked about free host and there are reasons for this. This is probably the most reliable free hosting available out there. But you should know that it is limited to the hosting of blogs only, so unless you are running a blog, this cannot be a consideration for you.

In case you don't already know, a blog is like an online diary which is updated every time you submit a post or an entry. Depending on your needs, a blog may or may not be suitable. If the latter is the case, the alternative is probably the traditional website, which mainly consists of a home page, an about page, a contact us page and other web-pages. This kind of website may be more complex but obviously, more versatile as well. For instance, more payment options can be incorporated in this kind of website as opposed to Blogger's blogs.

If a blog is suitable for you, Blogspot hosting is highly recommended, but you should be aware of the limitations of this free hosting. By now, you should already know that hosting is the life blood of your site, because no matter how great your site is, it is live on the internet only because it is hosted by a host. In other words, you do depend very much on your host.

Depending on the nature of the contents on your site, it may be shut down if Blogger received complaints. You may contact Blogger on this matter but there is no guarantee whether or how fast can this be resolved. You usually cannot depend on the support provided with free hosting.

Blogs under Blogspot hosting may also be a little slow to load. Imagine if your site has a lot of traffic or worse, people click off without ever seeing your site because they are impatient to wait for the page to load. The latter is not surprising in the online world because there are countless web-pages out there beside yours.

Some people start with free hosting such as Blogger and later migrate to their own host when they realize that they are getting a sizeable audience. Not that you can't do that, but there are disadvantages to it. For example, your site ranking may be affected and then it will take time to achieve its usual position. You run the risk of losing some of your regular visitors. All this can translate to a drop in earnings.

Why not save yourself headache in the future by affording yourself the assurance of a paid host now? You can start with the cheapest plan and upgrade anytime.
