A Dedicated Server For Internet Hosting

By Adam Gufarotti

The content is served through the medium of a website. Web hosting services typically offer a variety of features in a hosting package such as email hosting, website hosting and domain hosting. Domain hosting id usually associated with domain name registration. The difference with using dedicated servers for hosting is in the level of control over the type of applications and operating systems used as well as the fact that it is not shared for other purposes.

There are three primary types of full -featured hosting services on the market today.

• Dedicated servers are used for managed hosting services where it owns the technology - the hardware and the software, and it gives full control to the client by leasing out the service. The management portion of the contract between the service provider and the contract entails monitoring the server to ensure that it is performing effectively, backing up data, technical support and the installation of security patches.

• Virtualization, which can imply either separation or separate identification of computer resources, or the combining of smaller individual components into a unified source relies on virtual private servers. This technology is used so that many logical servers can be set to operate through a single physical server.

• The most expensive type of hosting service is a colocation facility. This gives the client an internet connection with guaranteed consistent power and climate control. The client is responsible for maintaining the network and servicing any needs that may arise and normally employs a tech support staff for this area.

There are others types of services available that are limited to only certain applications, such as web hosting (website hosting only), email hosting, DNS hosting, game servers and Wiki farms. A hosted service provider, such as is considered with a dedicated server delivers a full array of IT functions.

• The infrastructure

• The software applications

• Security applications

• Data storage

• Website development

• Website hosting

• Email hosting

The provider of the dedicated server has the advantage of the same basic IT functions for many clients and typically charges the clients a monthly subscription fee. This effectively reduces costs for the host which it is able to pass on to the client. The client also has the option of outsourcing the network administrative needs so they have the convenience of a predictable recurring fee. They also have the benefit of a unified storage center from which information can be rapidly and effectively dispersed.
