Environmentalists Support Green Dedicated Servers

By Adam Gufarotti

Technology drains a lot of energy. In order to save energy, environmentalists want technology consumers, especially web site owners and internet companies, to use green dedicated servers.

Eliminate Carbon Footprints

Green servers offer the same benefits as regular servers. They run efficiently and perform quickly (high speeds). However, these dedicated servers demand less power which decreases our carbon footprint.

According to environmentalists, the carbon footprint is the measure of the impact that people's activities have on the environment. It relates to amounts of greenhouse gases produced by burning fossil fuels (i.e. through electricity, heat, etc.) When dedicated servers are used, they burn too much energy which contributes to this carbon footprint.

By using green dedicated servers, web hosting companies are doing their part to reduce the carbon footprint. They are also saving energy and saving money. It costs more to run dedicated servers that take up a lot of energy. It make sense for hosting companies to make an earth-friendly choice and offering this alternative to customers.

Powered by Renewable Energy

As a result of the detrimental effects on the environment, hosting companies are now moving in the direction of green dedicated servers. These dedicated servers are being run by renewable energy.

Renewable energy sources are energy powered by natural elements like wind, sun or water. There are green hosting companies that offer these designated servers to their consumers. These servers are powered from renewable energy which helps offset the carbon footprint and makes a dramatic impact on the environment.

How Do Green Dedicated Servers Work

A dedicated server is a web host that serves a specific web site. A dedicated server is not shared and the customer owns the web site. Although, the equipment for the server is usually leased from the provider, the space and bandwidth belong to the customer.

Green servers run off less power but still provide high quality and fast speeds like a traditional dedicated server. These dedicated servers allow customers better control over their server at a reasonably affordable price.

These earth-friendly servers offer many of the same features as servers. Customers can run their server via Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol. They can also own a user authentication database and use a dedicated IP address. This dedicated IP address will reduce issues associated with shared hosting (such as spam blacklists).

These servers also offer large memory storage, high performance and the same functions as dedicated servers. Hosting companies are making environmentalists very happy by moving in an earth-friendly direction.
